INTRODUCTION
Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) opened its doors in 2010 to meet greater Orange County’s soaring demand for superior quality orthopedic specialty care. California’s most highly regarded orthopedic surgeons partnered with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Orange County’s leading health system, to form HOI. Along with its hospital
in Irvine, CA, the enterprise incorporated two well-respected ambulatory surgery centers – Orthopedic Surgery Center of Orange County (OSCOC) in Newport Beach and Main Street Specialty Surgery Center (MSSSC) in Orange.
There are 228 specialty physicians who comprise HOI’s Medical Staff, including 91 orthopedic surgeons. All HOI physicians must meet rigorous quality practice standards to provide care for patients requiring surgical intervention.
HOI Hospital and administrative of ces reside in a state-of-the-art, environmentally sustainable medical facility at 16250 Sand Canyon Avenue, conveniently situated between the 5 and 405 freeways in Irvine. Prior to opening, extensive renovations were made to transform the 20-year-old hospital structure into a patient- centered healing environment that is Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) certi ed as environmentally responsible and resource ef cient. HOI hospital has 70 beds in private rooms and nine operating rooms equipped speci cally for orthopedic surgical procedures. Enterprise-wide, HOI and its two ambulatory surgery centers have a combined total of 18 operating rooms (ORs) and two procedure rooms.

Data presented in this report measures patient care statistics from all three HOI facilities. Data covers Fiscal Year (FY) 2016, from July 2015 to June 2016, unless otherwise specified. The comparative data from this Outcomes Report are aggregated from publicly reported sources including but not limited to National Health Safety Network (NHSN), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other regulatory agencies.
